Why Honey Boo Boo Why?

I’ve always said that if it creates the desired emotion in an audience, then it’s art.  It might not be good art, but it’s art.

That got challenged when someone told me I should be watching “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.”

Let me be real here, I’ve never watched Honey Boo Boo, but I do live on the planet, I’ve heard of her. Does that make me a snob?  Hope not.

The more I find out about the Boo Boo family, the less I want to see them in action.

The Boo Boo fan kept talking, “and the kid goes to these pageants and just makes like she’s the best . . . ”

I went to my happy place and started wondering about what I would BLOG on next.

“Then Honey Boo Boo’s mom says ‘It it what it is’ and gives the kid another Red Bull and Mountain Dew.”

I’m thinking about how the art we love is trying to teach us something and suddenly I’m curious about the Honey Boo Boo phenomenon.

I rudely interrupted.  “Why do you love the show so much?” Says I – trying not to sound too pretentious.

“OMG you watch a little Honey Boo Boo and you’ll feel SOOO good about yourself.”

There you have it folks, I rest my case. The art we love (not just the great art) is trying to help us be better, stronger and more authentic.  My friend may or may not need to watch Honey Boo Boo, but the Boo Boo clan is trying to tell him that he needs to feel better about himself.

I’m not judging – really I’m not – we all need a shot in the self confidence arm now and then.  Right now, I’m feeling pretty good about myself, but who knows, at some point I might need to pull up the lazy-boy crack open a Red Bull and Mountain Dew and feel better about my self.  I just hope I know why I’m doing it.
